Beginning with Thucydides and the destructive wars of the Polis in 5th century Greece, and moving in stages around the Mediterranean basin over two millennia, important historical epochs such as the Dark Ages, the Renaissance and Reformation, Enlightenment, Industrial Revolution and the emergence of Finance Capitalism and its parliamentary political equivalent, the student of political history is given access to the thoughts, works and methods of those worthy artists who guide the student through the long duree of western civilization while at the same time cutting through to explore the human condition at its best and worst.
